Show Off 2025 opened on Friday night. It’s always an interesting and very diverse show, despite all the artists living in Cockburn.
I have a big still life, ‘Flickers’ in the show and a smaller work with a painted frame.
My favourite work in the show is @kyro.art’s digital collage of the power station. My photo doesn’t capture it well, but it’s a beauty. The show is on until April 13.

I did crane in a donga (demountable office) when I moved in that’s meant to be my studio but the kitchen is easier and closer and has electricity and chocolate and tea.

Found some very old paintings in my shed from my first year at Curtin Uni.
I was 18 - that’s me in the black/brown in the last pic.
These were 30 min oil paintings with a life model. I used to love painting fast - hardly looking at the paint or the painting, just slapping it on.
Standing at an easel and having a time limit makes me paint so differently.
I wish I could harness that immediacy while sitting drawing on my iPad.
Does anyone manage to paint expressively sitting down? Let me know what your technique is…

For Xmas I got one of the best pressies that a person with a chronic illness (in my case me/cfs) can get. 🥰

No, not a treatment or cure unfortunately😭, but a stack of labour coupons from my bestie Tim.

He turned up with a charged drill and insane amounts of stamina and put a few holes in the wall.

In my bedroom we have an artwork, Sweet Tooth, by @louiseelscot under artworks by @maxxi_makesart and #janinenoonan

In the living room we have a cute little yellow key holder from @ikea_australia and a vintage junk holder that’s been in a box for years, also next to a @maxxi_makesart sticker mandala.

I’ve drawn these little still lifes on my iPad as a consolation prize for not being well enough to paint. I’ve only ever used it for fabric designs before so this was a bit of fun!
The calendar will be shipped from WA in mid-November.

In true #mecfs fashion, I'm too sick to go to the opening of SICK AF this afternoon. 😢

Here's a painting I made for the show - artist statement following.

Today's 'crash' is because I went to work on Wednesday to do some laser cutting. I had a great day but because I couldn't get my scooter out of the car myself I had to walk to the loo about 50m away, twice. That's the furthest I've walked in one go in over a year.
The defining factor of ME/CFS is post-exertional malaise (PEM) which means that 48-72 hours after doing something you crash, hard.
For many people that crash could come from reading a text, or sitting up. I'm lucky to be able to do so much more.
I was fine Thursday, but Friday I woke up and didn't really wake up. I feel like I have the flu and I'm jet-lagged and it's 3am and I'm in a lead diving suit and the bed is a magnet. My arms ache just typing this and my eye sockets feel like they've been punched. That's classic PEM, often described like being poisoned. It's shit. It will pass.

One of millions missing.
2024 finds me disabled and exhausted with crippling fatigue from ME/CFS. I used to be bright and extroverted, with a colourful wardrobe, home, and art & design practice. Now, I’m fading. I’m often too fatigued to lift my head; putting on my glasses to read or paint is often beyond me. I monitor my heart rate and steps on my watch, attempting to exert myself as little as possible because any exertion can make me more unwell for days. The hashtag 'millions missing' underscores the invisibility of ME/CFS—we are housebound and missing from life as we knew it.

I’m excited to be in this exhibition opening this Saturday at the new Nyisztor Studio in Fremantle.
I have 3 paintings in the show and a couple of embroideries.

‘The artists/crafts practitioners in SICK AF identify as having gone through a life changing illness or event. The language of their journey is intrinsically embedded through their work.’

As many of you know I have ME/CFS and a few other conditions as they like to hang together ☺️

I’m pretty stable right now and well enough to work part time but I know that any infection can take away my independence and ability to work again.

The opening is at 4pm this Saturday at 17 Essex St, Freo.
I’m not sure if I’ll be there. Along with many others, I can’t risk crowded indoor spaces with unmasked people. I would appreciate if friends wear a mask as a kindness to the many high risk folks around. As always, I’d be delighted to supply cute black masks to any takers.

I’ll definitely be at the gallery at a quieter time and would relish the opportunity to talk anyone’s ear off - come and hang out. 🧡🌼💖😷🥰

Oil painters - Australians in particular, can you help me out?
I wanted to paint this fabric bright pink but it’s coming out purple. I can’t seem to mix a decent dark pink. Any suggestions of the best colours to mix? Everything is muted or purply.
The art shop near me is out of Alizarin Crimson and I want to paint this fabric today! I guess I’ll put it off that’s the only suggestion.
